I'm here at the C&P Coffee Company, listening to an argument between Julian, the large, booming-voiced 70 year-old, who is arguiing with a woman over Israel and American foreign policy in the Middle East. Now they're arguing over group dynamics and democracy.
Our Constitution, she says is founded on individuals. The American people are generally selfish, she says. I agree, I am not sure what the Founding Fathers' intentions really were, other than, as she says, to protect the individual from the type of tyranny they'd experienced in England. But there is also the rights of the community.
I love these types of debates. Although, I generally think Julian is full of sh*t. He's a bit of a bully, and I can't put my finger on it, but his arguments don't hold water. He is also pro-Israel, very vehemently pro-Israel, and I am leery of anyone who is susch a zealot.
What a way to have a coffee, sitting at the Big Table, which we've dubbed the "Algonquin Square Table", ala Dorothy Parker and the Algonquin Round Table and The Vicious Circle.
